Το Royal Kaluga προέρχεται από τον οξύρρυγχο Kaluga (Huso dauricus), ένα είδος με αργή ανάπτυξη που συνήθως χρειάζεται οκτώ έως δέκα χρόνια προσεκτικής εκτροφής πριν δώσει χαβιάρι.
